- Treat water production as a schedulable microgrid load.
- Use finished-water storage to bridge renewable variability.
- Match the process to feedwater rather than defaulting to seawater RO.
- Design spares, pretreatment, and remote support into the project budget.
- Plan brine or concentrate management before selecting the treatment package.
- Harden electrical and water infrastructure for storms and salt exposure.
What should be measured
A credible case study reports water quality and volume, specific energy consumption, renewable fraction, downtime, membrane and consumable life, operator hours, concentrate handling, lifecycle cost, and service outcomes—not only installed solar capacity.
